Well, what to tell about me ?!? ...
Let's start with some basics:
My name
is Jan Biermeyer and I was born in May of 1980. I am 1.93 meters (6'3") tall, weight
about sporty 88 kilos (195 lbs/ ± 5), am blond haired and blue eyed.
I recently graduated from University of Paderborn, Germany,
with a diploma (Masters equivalent) in combined electrical engineering and computer science.
I just returned to Newport Beach in Orange County, Southern California, to continue my research on
autonomous robotics targeting robotic racing at
UCI's
DREAM Lab. I finished my work on the Paderkicker soccer robots,
but I am still working on the robotic racing project,
the Cyberrider, a full sized autonomous dune buggy.
I am also still an IT trainer and freelancer with SANITT.
I have way to many hobbies as there are biking, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, tennis, soccer, basketball, running among others as sports, traveling the world, reading, good friends, sleeping, partying and - obviously - webdesign, ...
I speak some pretty good German as it is my mother tongue, managed to keep some good English
despite one year in Cali, my French used to be very fluent but I lack chances to use it,
with Latin, it is pretty much the same, but it still gives me easy access to Latin derived languages.
I dream of learning more Spanish, I can already read and understand some and
now that I finally learned how to pronounce the "rrrrrr" properly,
I just need to find the time to learn some vocabulary ... then, Hawai'ian will
be next!
I think that it is very important to travel a lot to get to know other cultures
and to meet new people. My favorite places to go to are Venezuela (Caracas,
Morrocoy, Los Roques(!), Magarita, Merida & Adicora), SoCal (Newport/ Laguna/ Huntington Beach,
San Diego, La Jolla, Santa Barbara), Scandinavia (Sweden's west coast; Ebletoft Bay, Rinkobing
Fjord and Kopenhagen in Danmark), everywhere around the Ijsselmeer in the Netherlands (especially Edam &
Amsterdam, Makkum and Bergen an Zee), London, Sylt & Fehmarn in Germany..
And as long as the Venezuelan crisis is not over
- my dream place to go still is Hawai'i.
I like all kinds of music, especially Ska, Punkrock and Latin Music like Shakira's Spanish albums or Company Segundo, I don't care too much about the film as long as I get good popcorn in the movies but my favorite films by far are Snatch, Fight Club and Shrek.
My favorite sayings are Hawai'ian: "E ho'omanawa nui - Time flows from one occasion to another", "A Ohe Pau Ko Ike I Kou Halau - Think not that all wisdom is in your school." and "Be the change you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi
This should do so far, if you should wish to know more, just drop me a mail!
P.S.
Did I mention I love hibiscus, the Aloha flower?!?
